Cork Film Festival

From the 9th to the 16th of November, the Cork Film Festival will take place all around the city. During this week the Opera House, Triskel Centre, Gate Cinema and the National Sculpture Factory will screen films, short films and documentaries.

The list of films is absolutely huge! I manage to take a look and sort a short list of films I wanted to see but ‘short’ was not possible… I already started the list so I will put it anyway!

Here is a list of my favorites:

Kill your darlings
– The Man who fell to earth
Felix the Cat – The Original Megastar
– Dylan Moran: Desert Island Flicks
– Birds on the Wire
Blue is the Warmest Colour
– Computer Chess
Don Jon
– Expiration Date
– A Flea’s skin would be too big for you
– Forgotten Place
– Free fall
– Halley
– Greeting from Tim Buckley
– Kodachrome
– Longwave – Les Grandes Ondes
– Margarita
– Mondomanila (or How I fixed my hair after a rather long journey)
Night train to Lisbon
– Painless – Insensibles
The Punk Singer
– The Punk Syndrome
– The Shadows
– Shield of Straw
– Free Radical Shorts
Saving Mr Banks
– The night of the hunter
– The big Lebowski

There is some films I really really want to see so I embolded them!

Of course I won’t have the time to watch everything, some of the films are screening during the day and I have to work. It bothers me a lot more than it should… But I guess I’ll have to live with it…

The other thing that deserves to be noted is the fact this year is the anniversary of the decriminalization of the homosexuality. The year is the 20th birthday so there will a projection cycle of films about homosexuality: Blue is the warmest color, Kill your darlings, Big Joy: The Adventures of James Broughton, Future My Love, Naked Opera, The Man Whose Mind Exploded,
In The Name Of, India Blues and many more!

If you are like me and you want to watch a lot of movies you can use the Planner available on the Cork Film Festival Website. It’s really helpful!
The festival will screen more than 200 films over the week! Be sure to get your tickets in time!
So, what films will you going to watch?
